Sunday we were on our way to the apartment of the mother of our friend Toni (who at one time was our neighbour in Powell River). It was a little bit easier going down the 8 flights of stairs! We took a taxi to Toni‘s mother’s place so we wouldn’t have to drag our bags around the public transit system not knowing if the escalator or elevators were functioning. It was another very warm and sunny day.

Toni and Lisa and Toni’s sister, Anna met us there for coffee and cake before we headed off to the Uckermark about an hour’s drive north of Berlin. Our bicycles and panniers which Toni had been storing at his place in Gladbeck, were loaded onto the rack on the vehicle and away we went. The terrain was gently rolling countryside with green fields, forests and lakes. We ended our journey at Toni’s ‘forestry’ house in the town of Haßleben which is very close to forested lands that his family owns and manages.
