It is a lovely morning here in Vielsalm (Belgium). We decided to try out another rail trail that runs west off the Vennbahn further into Belgium yesterday. Well, it’s not actually a ‘continuous’ rail path as it sometimes has to zig zag, up and down around major highway crossings, industrial and suburban housing developments…so we discovered!

There was a considerable number of hills both up and down, but the last 6 km was all a very long downhill ride…fun, except for the thoughts of having to go back up to get out of this valley!

As soon as we arrived at our hotel, I was online checking my options…ha, there is a railway line from here to Troisvierges at the end of the Vennbahn. So there was my out! We booked tickets for ourselves and our bicycles (€12 total) for a 20 minute ride to Troisvierges at which point we will cycle back to St. Vith where our next B&B is booked. Yes, we’ll be cycling that portion again the next day but this trip is not about the destination, but rather the joy of cycling through the beautiful countryside on a very smooth pathway!

Here are some sights along the way…

Belgian waffle anyone?
